Auxiliary in Action: Nicole ‘Bubbles’ Spangenberg Rides for a Cause

This month, we’re proud to shine the spotlight on Nicole “Bubbles” Spangenberg, an Auxiliary member of CVMA® Chapter 45-3 whose journey into this family of support, service, and motorcycles is rooted in love, resilience, and the desire to be part of something bigger.

Military Connection: A Journey Shared

Nicole’s connection to the military began through her husband, Jacob “Sandspider” Spangenberg, who served in the Wisconsin Army National Guard from 1997 to 2017. Today, Jake continues his service to veterans as the CVMA® Wisconsin State Secretary, and together, the couple shares a powerful bond forged through shared values and mutual support.

“Meeting my husband shaped my life into what I always knew it could be,” Nicole shares. “His military experiences made him who he is—both the good and the challenging—and we’ve built a life together based on openness, honesty, and unwavering partnership.”

Though she entered Jake’s life later in his military career, Nicole emphasizes that her experience is no less significant. “I didn’t live through his deployments, but I live with the aftermath,” she says candidly. “There are challenges—mental and physical—but we face them head-on, and we’re stronger together.”

Finding a Home in the CVMA® Auxiliary

Nicole’s path to the CVMA® Auxiliary wasn’t without hesitation. “At first, I didn’t think I’d have much in common with the other spouses,” she admits. But that quickly changed. “After spending just a short time with them, I realized I was actually home.”

Being part of the Auxiliary has become a meaningful extension of Nicole’s life. “It gives me a place and a purpose,” she says. “I get to work with other spouses to support not just our husbands, but an entire community of veterans and their families.”

Now serving as the Auxiliary Chapter XO, Nicole is committed to building camaraderie and ensuring that every member feels involved and supported. From organizing raffle baskets to leading participation at chapter events, she brings heart and hustle to everything she does.

Sisterhood, Support, and Unforgettable Memories

One of Nicole’s favorite parts of CVMA® life is the sisterhood and unwavering support she’s found. “I love that I can call on my CVMA® family when I’m struggling—or just when I want to hang out and be silly,” she says. “Some of my biggest laughs have come from time spent with this family.”

Her most cherished memory? A trip to Nationals in Kentucky. “Our bike had broken down just days before we were supposed to leave, and we were heartbroken. But one of our brothers offered us his bike so we could still go. That was my first big exposure to the CVMA®, and even as a newcomer, I felt like I belonged.”

Life on the Bike: The Freedom of the Open Road

Nicole proudly rides as a passenger alongside Jake, though she’s planning to take the New Rider Course this May to explore the possibility of having a bike of her own. “I ride because it’s what makes my husband happy, but I’ve grown to love it myself,” she says. “Being on the back of that bike brings a freedom unlike any other. I let go of everything and just trust him.”

Among all the rides, one stands above the rest: the Veteran Suicide Awareness Ride. Created in memory of Jake’s brother, who passed in 2020, this ride is deeply personal. “Planning it takes a lot of time and emotion, but every year it’s worth it. We raise awareness, connect people with life-saving resources, and support those affected by the same kind of loss our family has endured. The feeling I’m left with after that day is indescribable.”

Passion, Purpose, and Everyday Life

When she’s not volunteering or riding, Nicole works at a nonprofit in Appleton that provides job training for individuals facing employment barriers. At home, she cherishes time with her husband, 17-year-old stepson Jaden, and their German shepherd rescue, Sarge. Whether they’re watching movies, sitting by the fire, or going axe throwing, they make the most of their time together.

Her passion for helping others is evident both in her career and in her role with the CVMA®. “This chapter gives me the chance to give back to the veteran community in a bigger way,” she says.

Words of Wisdom for Future Auxiliary Members

To those thinking of joining the Auxiliary, Nicole offers heartfelt advice: “You’re joining a family. You can’t do it just because your spouse wants you to—you have to want to be part of something bigger. Spend time with the members, attend chapter meals or state and national meetings. That’s where the real connections are made.”

And above all: “You get back what you put into it.”

Nicole “Bubbles” Spangenberg is a shining example of what the CVMA® Auxiliary is all about—support, dedication, and the strength of community. We’re proud to honor her as our March Member of the Month. Thank you for all you do Bubbles!
