November 2025 Member of the Month: Kevin “Road Name” Berry
The Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association® proudly recognizes Kevin “Road Name” Berry as our November 2025 Member of the Month. Kevin’s story is one of searching for purpose, embracing challenge, and ultimately finding connection through service, riding, and community.
A Drive for Something More
Kevin’s journey into the military wasn’t just about service—it was about finding something more. After starting college, he quickly realized that the path he was on lacked the excitement, challenge, and purpose he was looking for.
“It felt like it was leading to a desk job… and that just wasn’t what I wanted.”
Coming from a family with a strong Army background—his father and both grandfathers served—Kevin chose to follow that legacy and carve out his own path in the military.
Military Service
Kevin served 8 years in the Army Reserves with the 203rd Transportation Company as an 88H Cargo Specialist, based out of Arden Hills, Minnesota.
He later re-enlisted into the Wisconsin Army National Guard, where he continues to serve today with Alpha Company, 173rd Brigade Engineer Battalion as a 12B Combat Engineer.
During Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan, Kevin deployed in 2013. His mission initially involved cargo handling and convoy operations out of Bagram Air Base before transitioning to Shank, where he supported helicopter operations.
One of his most unique and memorable experiences came during route reconnaissance missions alongside Czechoslovakian military commanders—riding in a minivan through Afghanistan, proving that even in combat zones, unexpected moments leave lasting impressions.
Growth Through Experience
The military gave Kevin more than just a career—it gave him a deeper understanding of himself.
Through high-pressure environments and specialized opportunities, he discovered his strengths, how he reacts under stress, and what truly drives him.
Those lessons continue to shape his ambitions, career decisions, and the way he approaches life today.
The Challenge of Coming Home
Like many veterans, Kevin faced one of the most difficult parts of service after returning home—the loss of purpose.
“Everyone around me was the same… but I was not.”
The mission, the adrenaline, and the meaning behind daily life were suddenly gone, leaving a void that is all too familiar for those who have served.
His advice to fellow veterans reflects that experience:
“You need to seek out good friendships and reconnect. Finding purpose and community is essential.”
Kevin continues to stay connected with those he served with, making it a priority to meet annually—because those bonds don’t fade with time or distance.
Finding That Connection Again Through CVMA®
After struggling to find that same sense of connection in civilian life, Kevin found what he was missing through the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association®.
CVMA® provided something familiar—people who understand the experiences, the mindset, and the passion for riding.
“It gave me a sense of belonging.”
For Kevin, it’s not just about helping others—it’s about showing up for each other.
“Sometimes it’s not just about helping other veterans… it’s about helping each other just by being together.”
One of his favorite memories captures that perfectly—riding together as a group on the Lakeshore Run, outrunning storms and sharing the kind of moments that define the experience.
His message to veterans considering joining is simple:
“Whatever you’re looking for… you can find it here.”
The Ride
Kevin currently rides a 2024 Harley-Davidson Heritage Classic—his first Harley after owning several other motorcycles.
The choice came down to performance, customization, and simplicity—but the experience goes far beyond the bike itself.
“It’s the thrill, the connection to the world, and the unspoken connection with other riders.”
Riding provides more than excitement—it creates space to think, reflect, and reset.
“It clears your mind… whether you want it to or not.”
Life Beyond the Patch
Outside of CVMA®, Kevin is a husband and father, balancing family life with continued service in the Wisconsin National Guard.
He enjoys fishing, working on his motorcycle, and spending time relaxing around a bonfire—embracing the simple moments that bring balance to a fast-paced life.
One thing many may not know—he’s a fan of sci-fi thrillers, showing there’s always more beneath the surface.
Looking ahead, Kevin dreams of riding through Ireland with his wife—proving that sometimes it’s not about the destination, but the journey itself.
Closing
Kevin “Road Name” Berry represents the journey so many veterans face—searching for purpose, rediscovering connection, and continuing to grow through new chapters of life.
Through his service, his resilience, and his commitment to others, he continues to embody the mission and spirit of the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association®.
Thank you for your service and for continuing to show up—for your family, your fellow veterans, and this community.
